Lesson 7
Sight reading can be divided into two types – this is sight reading at a real pace, and analyzing a music piece by notes.
Parsing a music piece by notes is as follows: you just look at the notes and play them on your instrument. You can find them slowly on the instrument, you can slow down the phrases, repeat them, you can disassemble one measure slowly or several times. It is just such a slow and thoughtful process.
Reading music in real means that you took the instrument and immediately began to play at the right tempo, with the right phrasing and dynamics. That is, close to how it should be performed.
In the realistic situation you cannot to stop or come back. You must to continue to play music all way thru. If you make a mistake, keep on going forward. If you loose your place, try to find where you are in the music and continue forward.
Practice sight reading every day!
You have to build the sight reading into your daily warm up routine. This is not negotiable.
Try to sight read a new piece of music every day in a different key, time signature and genre.
